Welcome back to this week’s #ShopLocalSaturday; where I highlight local eats and shops that I have visited. This week is a special NYCC edition; featuring Tairyo , a Japanese Fusion spot in Bay Ridge!
My friends and I were finishing up the first day at NYCC, and we wanted to grab food that was close to home. We traveled back into Brooklyn, and decided upon Tairyo; which has ramen (It was definitely good weather and season for ramen). What was a surprising note when we parked and walked up to the entrance, that there was a banner stating that they were serving unlimited Sapporo beer; because they were celebrating their one year anniversary.
Since it was a Thursday night; it really didn’t surprise me that it was empty. Most restaurants that I’ve been to that are also bars, in addition; are the ones more crowded, have more selection in alcohol, and are closed in the early morning hours (it closed at around 10:30pm)
The menu has a nice mix of ramen, sushi, bento boxes, teriyaki, and other Japanese dishes. While the other options were tempting; I desired ramen, so I ordered a tonkatsu ramen.
While I did regret that it came with bamboo shoots (not a fan); everything else, ingredient-wise, is fairly standard for a tonkatsu ramen. What stood out about this for me, was that I had the option to have the egg; where the yolk is a runny liquid inside. For me, any place that this type of egg goes on top of the list.
What accompanied, or proceeded this bowl of ramen is a sushi roll. Looking over the chef’s specialty sushi; there was a nice selection, with some unique names, and the combination of fish and other ingredients to make up the roll. The one I got was called the Sexy Roll (yea, my friends laughed at this also), it was made of up 3 different types of fish; yellow-tail, tuna, and salmon (Pictured at the top). The sushi was very enjoyable; it was exactly what I had expected with 3 types of fish; and with some spicy mayo to go with it.
I almost totally forgot about the unlimited Sapporo that they were offering!
I only had one though…they gave it to me first, and without and on empty stomach; feeling the effects of beer was more quicker and effective. Probably should have waited for at least the sushi to arrive, and eat something before deciding to drink that beer.
To end, I would recommend Tairyo. I feel, it is best suited for taking a date out there for a nice Japanese dinner, and some drinks. It gives off that environment that it would be suited for dinner dates. Though there are a few tables that are also suited for a group dinner setting as well, of perhaps up to 10. If I’m ever in the Bay Ridge area again; I would visit Tairyo again.
As a bonus; if you do wanna get the most bang for your buck; I’ll leave you with the following options below with my links, so that you can earn cash back on what you order while you’re visiting Tairyo.
Know of any other local shops that you enjoy going to that should be highlighted? Leave a comment and let me know!
And as always,
Remember to always support your local establishments! They are a part of your community!
