Top Three Things I accomplished in 2020…

The Eric Fong • December 31, 2020

I think we can all agree that 2020 is a year that we probably won’t forget anytime soon.

Looking back; I’m sure at the end of last year, we were very optimistic of what 2020 would bring. I know I was. I had an awesome 2019; and was looking forward to what 2020 would bring me. But, nobody predicted what would happen in the next 12 months (and if you did, kudos to you!)

What I wanted to share with you; the highlights and things I accomplished that positively impacted my 2020 (because I believe, now more than ever, need to hear more positive things to weather the negativity storm).

  • Leveled Up My Presentation Skills

Like I referenced in my blog post earlier this year (link included below; give it a read), I learned a lot from giving this presentation in January of 2020. But, probably the most critical thing was that practice makes progress. Every time I practiced this by myself, and with my coach; I got better and better. I barely remembered what happened during the presentation. As I told others; I was on ‘autopilot’.

  • Implemented a more consistent fitness regimen

So, as the lockdown became a thing here in New York City; suddenly there was no where to go after work, local businesses were shuttered for what appeared to be a temporary measure (we’re at the end of the year, still more or less the same situation). I found myself with blocks of time that were opened up that I had to fill. So I added fitness and exercise to fill the timeslot.

Now, mind you; I’m not a fitness buff or gym rat, or any of those things, I wanted to keep as active as I can.
I implemented high intensity interval training, or HIIT. My schedule was twice a week, as much as I can (Yea, I fell off some weeks, still working on keeping disciplined).

I discovered that I have shoulders (go figure, right?!) But in-between those 8 months; I spent probably 3 of those months playing handball, in the park. It was good way to keep active; and it was part of the reason I fell off some weeks (as I recovered from the muscle pains from handball the previous weekend).

  • Improved my Financial Health
Now, at the end of 2019; it was my best year to date. I did a lot; traveled to two continents, attended a numerous comic cons, attended many networking events to socialize, meet others, and catch up.

However, what I did not realize until I entered 2020; that 2019 was my most expensive year. I had incurred quite the personal, or bad debt; as I call it. All in order to ‘live my life’. Yes, indeed I had fun, and I did not regret a single moment of it, but the bad debt occurred was the price or cost that I paid to do it.

I am very grateful that I was able to work from home during 2020; this gave me a chance to recover, and pay off the bad debt occurred. I am also very fortunate that I had a program that helped me maximize paying off that debt in the shortest amount time.
Yes, I owed more than $20k of bad debt

I wanted to share this because it requires discipline to pay off the bad debt, in order to create wealth. Also, to remove emotional attachment from the subject of money, as I found that most people add emotions whenever money or finance is brought up (myself included). I realize that I have to start from myself; to share my story of the progress I’m making to eliminate bad debt, and to begin creating wealth.

  • Increase my Education

Of course, to fill up the remaining free time slots that I had, I took to YouTube to watch or listen to podcasts and channels, from influential people and experts in their field of study.
Mostly, these were financial, business, and entrepreneurial channels that I was listening and absorbing the content they had. These were channels that included Rich Dad Radio, Dan Lok, Mike Maloney, cryptocurrency, Minority Mindset; just to name a few.
I do highly recommend doing your own research if you want to find experts in the subjects you want to learn about, and by that, I mean that these are individuals who are walking their talk, not just preaching at you.
Of course, I am by no means, an expert in anything. I’m simply learning from the experts, and validating their information and content. Again, I recommend everyone to do their due diligence.

Honorable Mention:

  • Comic Cons

I feel that I have to mention that; because comic conventions are a huge part of my lifestyle and identity. The only one that I have attended was Big Event; which was a wrestling meet and greet.

Other than that, comic conventions were moved virtually. I checked out a few of them, because I was curious on how it would be. Let’s just say, I’m not a fan of it. It made me remember why I largely avoided the panels section of a comic con. Now, that’s not to knock it. I understand that many fans enjoy panels to get the latest industry news, screenings, and so on. But it simply is not my cup of tea.

However, I did buy merchandise that the virtual Show Floor (vendors where you can purchase items; that are shipped to you).
Did I mention that I increased the number of caps?

If you made all the way here, thanks for reading!

I hope that this helps you look back to your 2020, and see the good or positive things that you have achieved. It could be anything, as long as you are grateful that it happened, and impacted your life in a positive way to help you grow.

Let’s face it; we’re growing older by the second, how about let’s grow to get better as well?

“It’s not what you know. It’s who you know.” You probably heard this statement many times. You may be wondering, “What’s that really mean? Who do I have to know? And how do I do that?” My simple answer to that is; networking. Networking is a necessity as you grow up. In fact, you already know how to network and know people; you’ve been doing it all your life.

What’s in the teapot today for Tea Time Thursday? I popped open my #chrysanthemumtea today from Chinese Tea Culture. I definitely love the taste. It reminds me when I go #dimsum and this tea is served. Gotta love when it’s brewed #teatimethursday #chinesetea #nostalgia
