Welcome back to this week’s #ShopLocalSaturday; where I highlight local eats and shops that I have visited. This week is featuring Yong Kang Street (Koreatown) in Midtown, NYC!
I’m going to take you back to last December; to where the weather in NYC is cold, I’m in my bubble jacket and my hood is up. I was heading to a networking event, and before each event, it’s best for me to eat some food before consuming alcohol and conversing with others.
Around the area was this restaurant called Yong Kang Street. Now, I have heard of them before; when as they had a spot in Las Vegas. Obviously, it is not as grand and glamorous as the one in Las Vegas.
You order with the cashier first. I got Hong Kong style wonton noodle; which has shrimp port wonton in it, shrimp dumplings (most people who enjoy dimsum know this as har gow), and thai iced tea. After ordering; they give you a small mobile tracker to signal you when your order is ready for you to pick up.
The wonton noodle is similar as one would find in another Chinese restaurant; which is reassuring to me. The soup was light and savory. I enjoyed the wontons the most in the soup; as they were juicy and each bite was delicious. For the shrimp dumplings (har gow); just like at a dimsum spot, there was a lot of shrimp packed in, and best if eaten as soon as you can.
What I underestimated was the size of the thai iced tea. It was definitely bigger than what I would be. But it was definitively worth it.
To end, I’d recommend Yong Kang Street for those making a quick stop for some Asian food menu items in Midtown. I find it amusing that it’s near Koreatown, so it’s just an extension of an Asian-type stores, but just not Korean-only. I’ll be back to Yong Kang Street again to try their other items.
As a bonus; if you do wanna get the most bang for your buck; I’ll leave you with the following options below with my links, so that you can earn cash back on what you order the next time you’re visiting Yong Kang Street.
Know of any other local shops that you enjoy going to that should be highlighted? Leave a comment and let me know!
And as always,
Remember to always support your local establishments! They are a part of your community!
