Welcome back to this week’s #ShopLocalSaturday; where I highlight local eats and shops that I have visited. This week is featuring Chullos in Miami, Florida!
About two months ago; I was in town for a business conference, and had some downtime between landing and the next day of the conference kicking off. As my tradition when traveling; checking out local restaurants and eateries wherever I go gives me a sense of wonder and excitement, checking out the surrounding neighborhood and culture.
Located about 5 minutes away from where I was staying at, in a strip mall; I made my way to a Peruvian spot called Chullos. Now because I got there at around 3-4 pm on a Wednesday; it was before the dinner rush, so of course, the restaurant was empty.
Starting off with a small bowl of roasted corn; then waiting for my appetizer, was the yuquitas huacaína; which there were 5 small yucca croquettes. What accompanied with the croquettes was the huancaina dipping sauce; which was very creamy and rich in flavor that complimented the croquettes.
After finishing the croquettes; my main course came which was a traditional Peruvian dish; the tallarín verde con bistec. My eyes are glued to any dish that has steak anywhere in its description, it is my go-to dish; if I ever have trouble picking a plate to eat.
This 9-ounce steak was juicy, and a bit salty; which added to the flavor of the steak. Now, what I failed to notice was the fettuccine that came with the steak was covered with pesto sauce. I am NOT a fan of pesto sauce.
What I managed was to finish the steak dish only half-way. This was because of the yuquitas huacaína appetizer I had earlier. I had finished the entire plate, because it was very tasty. It was a lot of carbs; which had stuffed me up quite quickly.
To end, I would come back to Chullos if I’m back around that spot in Miami again. Next time, I’d try another dish, like the Tacu Tacu a lo pobre or the Arroz con Mariscos. Towards the end, I noticed more people coming into Chullos; the dinner rush has begun. So I got in at a fairly good time.
As a bonus; if you do wanna get the most bang for your buck; I’ll leave you with the following options below with my links, so that you can earn cash back on what you order the next time you’re visiting Chullos!
